Classification of Environmental Purposes
Validity start date:
The classification describes economic activities related to environmental protection and the management of natural resources. It is used in environmental accounts (SEEA CF) to illustrate the interactions between the economy and the environment.
Legal base:
Luokituksen käyttö perustuu EU:n ympäristötilinpitoasetukseen (Regulation (EU) No 691/2011, muutettuna asetuksella 538/2014) sekä siihen liittyviin täytäntöönpanoasetuksiin.
The classification is used in environmental accounts to describe the interactions between the economy and the environment. It is applied in particular to statistics on environmental protection expenditures, the environmental goods and services sector, and environmental subsidies.
The classification is divided into eight main groups covering environmental protection and natural resource management. The main groups are further subdivided into more detailed groups and classes, and activities are classified according to their environmental purpose.
The classification is based on classifications developed by Eurostat: CEPA (2000) and CReMA (2008). It is consistent with the UN System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA CF) and enables the production of internationally comparable statistics.
