Participation in leisure activities: documentation of statistics
The documentation of the statistics describes how the statistics were compiled and what methods were used in the compilation. The data help interpret the figures of the statistics and evaluate their reliability and comparability. The quality report is based on the EU's SIMS model. The documentation also contains change releases describing changes in the statistics and possible specifying methodological descriptions.

Data description (SIMS 3.1)
The Leisure Survey is an inquiry that examines the population's leisure activities and social participation, their development and participation of different population groups. The survey also produces information on the ratio between work and leisure, social relationships and importance attached to different spheres of life. The Leisure Survey has been conducted in 1977, 1981, 1991 and 2002. The data for the leisure survey are collected with a self-filled web and paper questionnaire and face-to-face interviews from September 2017 to January 2018.
Concepts and definitions (SIMS 3.4)
Active audience of cultural events
Has visited the theatre and/or dance performances and/or concerts at least six times per year and/or went to see an opera at least three times and/or a movie at least once a month.
Active participant in one form of physical exercise
Has participated in a certain form of physical exercise hobby regularly approximately once a week for at least a couple of months in the past 12 months.
Active physical exerciser
Participates in some physical exercise hobby on at least three days per week.
Audience of cultural events
Has visited one of the following cultural events at least once during a year: theatre, concert, opera, dance performance, film, festival.
Creative pursuit as a hobby
Has one of the following as a hobby: handicraft, writing, dancing, photography, gardening, fine arts, playing an instrument, singing, cooking, video photography, creating music (composing), recitation, acting.
Cultural audience
Has visited one of the following at least once during a year: theatre, concert, opera, dance performance, film, festival, art exhibition, museum. In addition to the audience of cultural events, also persons that have visited art exhibitions or museums are included in cultural audience. Cf. audience of cultural events.
Physical exerciser
Participates in some physical exercise hobby at least once a week.
