Classification of enterprises and establishments in data collections from enterprises - classification service for enterprise data collections
When replying to Statistics Finland's inquiries, you may have to sum up your customer data according to sector and industry. Statistics Finland uses information classified according to industry and sector as basic data for several statistics.
This page contains links to files containing the basic classifications of enterprises and establishments. The files include operating enterprises and enterprises that have closed operation on or after 1 January 2018. The closing limit is the ending of the Business ID.
The data files contain the following information:
- Business ID: "ytunnus"
- Name of the enterprise: "nimi"
- Industry code at 2-digit level (TOL 2008): "toimiala2008"
- Industry code at 2-digit level (TOL 2025): "toimiala2025"
- Sector category 2023: "sektoriluokka2023"
- SME code according to EU definition: "yritystoiminnan tyyppiluokitus"
- Legal form used by the Tax Administration: "oikeudellinen muoto"

Files
The data of the classification service have been divided into three CSV files due to the high number of rows. The data are sorted by Business ID into ascending order. The files are updated monthly in the early part of the month.
You need a user ID and a password to open the files. The login credentials previously in use were disabled on 2 February 2026.
You can request new login credentials by email at rahoitus@stat.fi. The request must include the name of the organisation, the name and email address of the contact person, and the intended use of the data from the classification service.
Please note that logging in is only possible via the Firefox web browser.
